Christmas Every Day and Other Stories Told for Children

About this edition

What if Christmas came every day—and you couldn't make it stop?

For one little girl, a year of Christmas mornings sounds like the perfect wish. More presents. More sweets. More celebrations. But when the Christmas Fairy grants her request, the excitement soon gives way to a wonderfully ridiculous problem: how much Christmas can anyone bear?

In Christmas Every Day and Other Stories Told for Children, W. D. Howells turns childhood wishes and questions into playful tales full of mischief, imagination, and unexpected consequences. Fathers tell stories, children interrupt, and even the storyteller cannot always escape a listener's objections.

This collector's edition brings together five stories:

• Christmas Every Day
• Turkeys Turning the Tables
• The Pony Engine and the Pacific Express
• The Pumpkin-Glory
• Butterflyflutterby and Flutterbybutterfly

Accompanied by 10 original illustrations, these stories invite families to share the humour of an earlier age, from impossible wishes to fanciful adventures. The lively exchanges between storytellers and their young listeners make the collection especially inviting to read aloud.

A collection to open together—and discover why the best part of a story is sometimes the child who won't let it go quite as planned.
